Warranty Terms and Conditions

KGM SsangYong Australia (SYAU) warrants:

  • The first owner and subsequent owner of each new vehicle during the first 7 years bumper to bumper for all buyers.
    • Warranty Conditions apply. 7 year / unlimited km New Vehicle Warranty applies to new and demonstrator vehicles delivered from September 1st, 2018. SsangYong vehicles come with consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. The SsangYong warranty does not limit and may not exceed customer rights under those guarantees.
  • The warranty period will commence on the date of delivery or when it is first registered, whichever comes first.

What is Covered:

  • SsangYong Australia will warrant that your new SsangYong vehicle is free from defects in material or workmanship, subject to the following terms and conditions. A SsangYong Dealer will make the necessary repairs, using only genuine SsangYong parts, to correct any defects in material or workmanship covered by this warranty without any on charge to you.

Warranty Policy:

  • 7 Year / Unlimited Kilometre Warranty
  • SYAU will provide a SEVEN YEAR UNLIMITED KILOMETRE WARRANTY against defects arising in materials or manufacture for all vehicles sold from September 1st, 2018.
  • SYAU warrants the vehicle against any defects arising in materials or manufacture except where items are expressly excluded or where a separate warranty applies.
  • This 7 Year Unlimited Kilometre Warranty is subject to the terms and conditions detailed in these Terms and Conditions.
  • SYAU will repair or replace any part of the vehicle which proves defective in material or workmanship, free of any charge subject to the terms and conditions of the following sections:
    • What SYAU will do (11.2)
    • Tyre Warranty (11.3)
    • Battery Warranty (11.4)
    • Wear and Tear Parts Warranty (11.5)
    • Owner’s responsibility (11.6)
    • What is not covered (11.7)
  • All parts replaced under this warranty become the property of SYAU.
  • Warranty repairs or parts replacement will be performed by an authorized dealer at its place of business within a reasonable time after delivery of the vehicle to the dealer during normal business hours for the vehicle service industry.
  • These warranties apply from the Warranty Start Date

11.2. What SsangYong Australia (SYAU) will do:

To help the customer secure maximum satisfaction from the new vehicle, SYAU confirms that each new vehicle has been inspected and conditioned according to SYAU new vehicle pre-delivery inspection (PDI) procedure.

Warranty repairs or replacement will be made at no charge for parts or labour by authorized dealers. A reasonable time to complete the repairs must be allowed after the vehicle is delivered to the dealer.

11.3 Tyre Warranty:

The tyres originally installed on new vehicles are warranted by the tyre manufacturer.

To obtain tyre warranty service, the owner must present the unserviceable tyre(s) to the local tyre agent, unless otherwise directed by SYAU. Any dealer will assist the owner in requesting an adjustment through the local agent, if necessary.

11.4 Battery Warranty:

The original equipment battery installed to the vehicles is covered by warranty for 2 years (24 months) or 30,000km, whichever occurs first, from the date of delivery to the original purchaser.

11.5 Wear and Tear Parts Warranty:

Below is a summary of the SYAU wear and tear policy regarding warrantable items.

  • Accessory Drive Belts: All accessory drive belts are wear and tear items. They are covered for up to 24 months or 40,000kms (whichever comes first) when a manufacturing defect is evident e.g. separation, tear, breakage.
  • Adjustments, Rattles and Squeaks: Are covered for up to 3 months or 3,000kms (whichever comes first).
  • Air Conditioning Gas: Replenishing air conditioning gas is a maintenance item and is only covered by warranty if it is associated with replacement of an air conditioning item. Recharge with dye for diagnosis is not warrantable.
  • Brake Pads and Shoes: All brake pads and shoes are wear and tear items and are covered for up to 6 month or 5,000kms (whichever comes first), if the fault is due to a manufacturing defect and not caused by driving style.
  • Brake Rotors – Discs, Drums: Brake rotors and drums are wear and tear items. They are covered for up to 20,000 kms for replacement. Replacement should only occur if the discs will be below thickness after machining. Run out figures are required for all warranty claims.
  • Glass: Glass is only warrantable up to 6 months after the Warranty Start Date.
  • Oils, Coolant and other Fluids: Only claimable when associated with a replacement of the component. Where possible oil, coolant and other fluids should be reused.

11.6 Owner’s Responsibility:

The owner is responsible to:

  • Properly use, maintain and care for the vehicle in accordance with the instructions in the owner’s manual.
  • Check for any possible defects on the trim and paint at the time the new vehicle is delivered and report same to the selling dealer without delay.
  • Keep maintenance service and inspection records for use in the event a question should arise concerning the vehicle’s maintenance, or in the event any subsequent sale.

11.7 What is Not Covered:

  • Damage due to misuse (e.g. overloading or racing), accident, abuse, theft or fire
    • Damage, malfunctions or failures resulting from misuse, negligence, and accidents are not covered by Warranty.
  • Damage due to improper or lack of maintenance
    • Damage, malfunctions or failures resulting from improper maintenance or lack of required maintenance in accordance with the owner’s manual, which was the direct cause of the part failure, (other than by an authorized dealer who has obtained consent from SYAU) and to the extent permitted by law, any defect of malfunction whose cause cannot be ascertained, are not covered.
  • Damage or surface corrosion from severe environment
    • Environmental damages resulting from airborne fallout (e.g. chemicals, tree sap etc.), salt, hail, earthquake, water or flood, windstorms, hurricanes, lighting etc. are not covered.
  • Items affected by wear, weather exposure etc.
    • Repair or replacement of defective parts or units is not covered by the warranty if defects have arisen from the owner’s negligence, accidents, misuse, normal wear and tear or weather exposure.
    • The repair or replacement of items, such as body panels, glass, soft trim, plated parts, bumpers and other appearance items, wiper blades, brake shoe lining or disc brake pads, drums or rotors, chassis springs, shock absorbers, and clutch plates and facings (on vehicle equipped with manual transmissions) will be covered by the warranty if they are clearly defective due to defective materials or workmanship.
  • Improper fuel and lubricant
    • Warranty does not cover problems caused by using improper fuel and lubricants other than specified in the owner’s manual or workshop manual.
  • Regular maintenance
    • Regular maintenance work such as adjustment of headlamp, clutch, belts, engine tuning, wheel balancing, cleaning, polishing, lubricating, and replacing filters, injection nozzles, clutch plates or facings and worn-out brake linings or pads are not covered under warranty.
  • Extra expenses
    • To the extent permitted by law, the warranty does not cover any economic loss including (without limitation), payment for the loss of time or pay, inconvenience, loss of vehicle use, vehicle rental expense, loading bills, food, fuel, other travel costs, storage charges and other incidental or consequential loss or damage.
  • Repair diagnosis time
    • The time for repair diagnosis is included in all established labour operation hours where it is required by the technician to perform operations. It is the responsibility of qualified supervisory personnel to assist the technician in carrying out owner problem analysis and symptom diagnosis. SYAU should be contacted for assistance in circumstances requiring extensive diagnosis.
  • Carrier damage
    • Carrier damage cases shall be handled as transportation claims as they are not covered under warranty.
  • Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Items
    • The items listed in the PDI shall be covered as the responsibility of the dealer.
  • Damage and deterioration during storage
    • No coverage is provided for damage or deterioration to the vehicle while in dealer inventory.
  • Odometer alteration
    • No coverage is provided to any vehicle where odometer readings have been altered without approval from SYAU.
  • Failure caused by non-genuine parts
    • If the failure resulted from installation of a non SYAU genuine part, it will not be covered by warranty.
  • Failure from previous repair.
    • Any trouble(s) arising from repairs performed by anyone including a dealer will not be covered by warranty.
  • Glass breakage due to impact
    • Replacement of glass due to scratches, chips and breakage that are not manufacturing defects is not covered by the warranty. Replacement of the rear glass due to defroster element failure may not be covered.
    • For the procedure for repair of failed defroster elements, see the relevant workshop manual. Replacement of glass with defects, such as air bubbles, separation or lamination and stress cracks may be covered by the warranty.
    • Note: Check cracking condition with care, because damages which appear to be stress cracks tend to have been caused by chipping.
  • Unauthorised Modifications
    • Any unauthorized modification, alteration, additions or deletions from the new vehicle will not be covered by warranty.
  • Unauthorised use of vehicle
    • Any problems arising from driving the vehicle at such speed or loading it with cargo in such a manner to exceed the allowable limits set forth in SYAU specifications, set out in the owner’s and driver’s manual or in local regulations, will not be covered by warranty.
  • Any problem(s) arising from repairs performed by any person or entity other than SYAU or its authorised repairer will not be covered by warranty.
  • Adjustment of headlamp, brake linings, clutch, belts, engine tuning, wheel balancing and other routine servicing will not be covered by warranty.
  • Replacement of, or any other problems arising from failure of, expendable Spare Parts such as spark plugs, electrical bulbs (excluding sealed beam lamps), fuses, contact point & arms, filters, wiper blades due to normal wear and tear, glow plugs and brake & clutch linings (in case of glow plugs and linings, excluding defects in manufacture or materials) will not be covered by warranty.
  • Trim (interior and exterior) – Normal deterioration is not covered by warranty.
  • Brake Adjustment: Not covered by warranty
  • Brake Bleeding: Not covered by warranty unless associated with the replacement of a brake component and required as part of the repair.
  • Any problem(s) arising from the mounting of any improper equipment on a SsangYong Motors chassis will not be covered by warranty.

11.8 Periodic Maintenance Service:

Proper maintenance and care of the vehicle are indispensable for safe driving and lower overall running cost. The periodic maintenance service comprises the minimum requirements for servicing which should be performed as per the service interval instructions provided in the service manual provided with the vehicle.

Additional maintenance service may be required, as weather and atmospheric conditions, varying roads, vehicle usage and individual driving habits greatly contribute to the need servicing for such vehicles.

11.9 Design Change:

SYAU has the right at any time to make changes to the design or specification of any vehicle without any obligation to make such changes on the vehicles that have been sold in the past, provided SYAU gives sixty (60) days prior notice to dealers.

11.10 Warranty Repairs in Territories other than those Where Vehicle is Sold and Registered:

When the vehicle under warranty is temporarily operated outside of its domestic market, the owner may seek repair at any authorized dealer in the area and claim to SYAU.

11.11 Rights & Remedies:

All benefits to the consumer given by this warranty are in addition to the other rights and remedies under the Act.

SYAU goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Consumers are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. Consumers are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Genuine Accessory Warranty Information

1. Approved Accessory Warranty:

SYAU warrants all genuine accessories to be free from defects and material or workmanship under normal use as set out below.

1.1 Accessories Fitted to the New Vehicle

SYAU approved accessories purchased and fitted at any dealer to the new vehicle at the time of purchase or delivery is warranted for 7 years unless stated. Customers should retain proof of purchase records to support warranty claims.

1.1.1 Accessories Purchased over the Counter (post vehicle delivery):

SYAU approved accessories purchased over the counter and installed by an authorized SYAU dealer are warranted from the date of purchase for 2 years, 40,000km, or the remainder of the new vehicle warranty, whichever is greater. It is necessary to retain proof of purchase records to support warranty claims.

SYAU approved accessories purchased over the counter and not installed by an authorized SYAU dealer are warranted from the date of purchase for 1 year or 20,000km (whichever comes first). Customers should retain proof of purchase records to support warranty claims. The Dealer will have the accessory replaced free of charge, however the customer will cover the labour costs.

SYAU’s obligations under this warranty are limited to the replacement or repair at its option of any accessory which shall be returned to a dealer.

1.2 What The Accessory Warranty Does Not Cover:

  • Any claim where it is impossible to validate the date and or mileage when the accessory was sold or fitted.
  • Any failure resulting from negligence, alteration, accident, use of the part in a way for which it was not designed or approved by SYAU or improper fitting, repair or replacement.
  • Any loss of time, inconvenience, loss of use of the vehicle or other consequential damage.

All benefits to the consumer given by this warranty are in addition to the other rights and remedies under the Act.

Genuine Parts Warranty Information

2. Genuine Replacement Part Warranty:

SYAU warrants all genuine parts to be free from defects in material or workmanship under normal use as set out below.

2.1. Genuine SYAU parts purchased and fitted at any dealer:

All genuine SYAU parts purchased and fitted at any dealer are warranted for the longer period of the remainder of the new vehicle warranty, 2 years or 40,000km

2.2. Genuine Parts Purchased Over the Counter:

Genuine SYAU parts purchased from a dealer over the counter are warranted from the date of purchase for one year or 20,000km (whichever occurs first). Customers should retain proof of purchase records to support warranty claims.

SYAU’s obligations under this warranty are limited to the replacement or repair at its option of any part which shall be returned to a dealer.

If quality warranty period of original vehicle components is shorter than renewal warranty period of components, the quality warranty period of original vehicle components shall prevail.

2.3. This warranty does not cover

  • Claim where it is impossible to validate the date and/or mileage when the genuine part was sold or fitted.
  • Failure resulting from negligence, alteration, accident use of the part in a way for which it was not designed or approved by SYAU or improper fitting, repair or replacement.
  • Loss of time, inconvenience, loss of use of the vehicle or other consequential damage.

All benefits to the consumer given by this warranty are in addition to other rights and remedies under the Act.

2.4. Emergency Warranty Repair

Warranty service carried out by unauthorized workshops is not normally covered by warranty. However, under special circumstances the customer may have no option but to have such a repair carried out. In this circumstance, the following conditions must be met, and prior approval must be obtained from SYAU before claiming:

  • the vehicle is inoperable;
  • continued operation of the vehicle would cause further damage or pose a safety problem; or
  • an authorized dealer is not available to make the repair.

The owner shall pay the repair fee and claim it from the selling dealer by submitting necessary documentation such as service invoice, repair order sheet etc.
